It’s the final month of the year and many of these new restaurants have opened their doors with a twinkle in their eyes and plenty of hope for the new year.

So as we say goodbye to 2016, here are 5 new openings that are primed to welcome you into 2017:

Agak Agak does more than feed, it also looks to give a leg up to underprivileged youngsters. Founded by Ili Sulaiman (Food Network Food Hero) and Basira Yeusuff (of Root Cellar KL), this restaurant puts Malaysian ingredients and flavours front and centre, while offering youths a one-year apprenticeship to pick up useful skills in the kitchen. Here’s another to add to the list of Thai restaurants – Tigerlily has set up shop in the newly opened DC Mall and is taking the route of authenticity when it comes to its menu. Enjoy everything traditionally Thai, from Green curry, to Tom Yum and Pad Thai in the colourful, warm and modern setting. Start your feast with your eyes by checking out their incredibly visual menu on Facebook.

Having picked the brains of restauranteur Ryan Yeoh and chef Malcolm Goh a couple of months ago, we can now give you an update – Define:food has opened its doors and is serving up food that finds its definition in the details. The cuisine here ranges from Italian to French done in a contemporary and no-frills approach. Learn more about this Mid Valley restaurant on Facebook.

Our number-cruncher (yours truly) knows for a fact that you love Japanese food, so here’s another restaurant to whet your appetite. Hikari-Ya may be coming into a market with lots, and I mean lots of competition, but looks to hold its own with air-flown unagi/eel, from Nishio, Japan and the mythical special order fugu/pufferfish. Find out more about this new eatery on Facebook.

Damansara Uptown gets a new dessert parlour in the form of Shugatori where honey toast, waffles and pancakes are the order of the day. Behind its clean and sleek setting lies an incredible eye for detail when it comes to the food, with plating so Instagram-worthy, you’ll feel slightly guilty for digging into this guilty pleasure. Learn more about them on Facebook.

In case you haven’t caught up yet, here are last month’s new openings.
