The Dining Room is located within the 100-year-old Macalister Mansion, a beautiful white mansion that is full of charm. It is a great place to have a romantic dinner. The paintings on the wall depict beautiful scenes from yesteryears, in line with the charm of the mansion. The interior of the restaurant is in all white and very cosy.
The Dining Room has two menus – the MM Discovery, a four-course meal and the Degustation, an eight-course meal.
The amuse bouche of beetroot tartlets and chopped mushrooms in a little bun is served beautifully – a good start to the dinner. Two little fish sticks are presented in a bowl with white pebbles beneath them while the lemon sorbet is presented in two little spoons – truly a feast for the senses.
The pan-seared scallops are fresh and the sweet pea shoots add a lovely green hue and crunch to the soft scallops. This is a lovely dish, largely due to the delicateness of the scallops.
The tiger prawns and white fungus in tom yam broth comes recommended as the prawns are sweet and the broth is spicy with little bits of coriander and petals of ginger flower, a clear winner. The foie gras with a red wine sauce is presented very beautifully and is delicious thanks to the rich and buttery taste of the liver.
For dessert the truffle ice-cream covered in dark chocolate shavings and berries has a wonderfully earthy taste. Definitely a unique end to the meal.
The wine list is extensive with wines from Australia to Chile. Those having the eight-course menu many need to order a few glasses as the fine servings are not very big.
Service is basic. Waiters are polite but could definitely do with some brushing up on the menu.
This is a great experience for romantics with more than two hours to spare. It is a recommended dining experience for anyone who appreciates tasting different types of food because the dishes are exquisite works of culinary art.
