Hidden away from the hustle and bustle of Jalan Bukit Bintang, Grand Harbour Restaurant is located by the back entrance of Fahrenheit 88. Decked out in a primarily gold palette and Oriental flourishes, the restaurant basks in plenty of natural light from floor-to-ceiling windows. The space is on the small side but can comfortably accommodate big family gatherings and smaller meet-ups alike.
Packed full of herbs and chunks of fried fish, the piping hot double steamed tian ma fish head soup is a robust start to a meal. Next is the quail egg and prawn dumplings, which is part of Grand Harbour's signature animal-shaped dim sum selection. With a smooth, bouncy texture, it isn't just cute to look at but also delicious to boot. Complementing a buttery, flaky pastry with a sweet-savoury filling, the honey BBQ pork pastry is another winner. Each bite of the siu mai is springy and bursting with savoury flavours while the roe adds a delightful pop.
Encased in a large bamboo steamer, the huge portion of fried glutinous rice studded with pieces of crab is definitely delightful. Not too sticky and infused with the heat of the wok, the rice is the perfect foil to the sweet, juicy crab meat. The chilled osmanthus jelly is a pleasant way to round off a mean at Grand Harbour.
Grand Harbour serves a limited menu of alcoholic beverages, comprising only of red and white wines, whiskey and brandy. While their wines cover countries like Australia, France, Italy, Spain and New Zealand, the selection only has between one and four labels under each country in both categories. Under liquors, only John Walker & Sons XR 21 and Hennessy XO are available so if diners are particular about their choice of drink, it's best to bring their own bottle.
