Upon entering the Breeze Lounge at The Westin Resort and Spa in Langkawi, one will immediately know why this name was chosen for this establishment. The lounge is wall-less and held up only by pillars, allowing the breeze from the aqua blue Andaman Sea to gently caress patrons as they sip their drinks and nibble on the delicious Middle Eastern and Continental delights that fill the menu. The view during the day is stunning and most patrons choose to come in the late afternoon, watch the sunset and stay on for dinner when the band comes on.
With Middle Eastern food being the specialty here, the Mixed Grill Platter is a must order. With chunky pieces of skewered chicken, dense and moist lamb koftas, succulent and perfectly charred pieces of lamb served with flat bread, fattoush and Arabic rice, this dish is too delicious to pass up. Also worth trying are the signature slider burgers. With a choice of either chicken or beef, the sliders are accompanied with crispy golden fries and crunchy coleslaw making for the perfect snack to graze on as you dive into that really good book.
For those with a sweet tooth, Breeze has the perfect Middle Eastern dessert – baklava. The filo pastry is rich and sweet while the pistachio pieces give the baklava a beautiful green hue and a nice crunch. To add to the decadence, the baklava is served with chewy nougat and chocolate-covered dates – simply divine!
Being a lounge, Breeze’s drinks menu is pretty impressive with a host of cocktails, liquers, whiskeys, vodkas, gins, rums, tequilas and of course, reds, whites and bubblies. Noteworthy cocktails include those inspired by The Westin’s SuperFoodsRX such as the orange raspberry mojito. This refreshing drink, perfect for sunny days by the beach, is a medley of rum, Malibu, muddled orange and raspberry, mint, lime juice and sugar. For those who prefer stronger drinks or drinks that are not as sweet, give the Hendricks martini a go. Using locally grown ingredients like lemongrass and basil for flavour and accented with elderflower and lemon juice, this is a martini with an Asian twist.
Service here is no doubt impeccable, with staff – from managers to waiters – always on hand for recommendations, queries or requests. All these elements put together make the Breeze Lounge a place worth visiting when in Langkawi.
